Unplug the kids to get them active..

Today's children are not getting the exercise they require.  I remember growing up and getting annoyed when I had to go inside.  Meanwhile, we were running through the woods, going to the park, climbing on rocks, and riding our bicycles just about everywhere!  What happened?  As parents, we need to set the example and find ways to get our kids more active.

Here are some tips to get kids going and become more active:

1) Plan a short trip somewhere.  Perhaps to a place where you would go as a kid yourself.  Pack a healthy lunch and some extra snacks and water.

2) Find a park and have a healthy lunch (no electricity to plug in)

3) Go for a walk, ride a bike, or climb some rocks (carefully as some of us are getting older)

4) Go to the beach even if its getting cooler, the sand is great to walk on and kids generally will find a way to run around and have fun!

5) Go to a museum, aquarium, or the zoo.  Walking is a must there and there's no way to avoid it!
.
6) Exercise together.  Encouraging healthy habits and setting the example will show kids that its not just talk and there are real benefits as well as feeling great, too.

7) Play sports together.  Even if its just kicking a soccer ball, throwing a baseball, or tossing a frisbee (a what?) yes they are still a round and just as much fun!

8) Introduce kids to something new, exciting, and fun they will enjoy that gets them moving.  Think back to fun games like playing wiffleball, hopscotch, jumprope, Chinese jump rope, elastics, French skipping, cat's cradle, kick the can, or other games which were fun then and are fun now.  Believe it or not, they may find them to be new and exciting, or even throw in their own twist.  Either way, it's a form of exercise and they will get outdoors.

Of course, we recommend HopStic which is fun, enjoyable, and will be a big trend in schools this winter...  But then again you expected that.  www.hopstic.com
